COMMUNITY

EXHIBIT SPACE

Location: Harlem Stage

Harlem Stage is here to ignite artistic freedom of performing artists of the Global Majority who are poised to create new works, new ideas, and a new world in which ALL people can flourish. We want to ensure that audiences can experience great work not only here, but also in their homes.

From Studio Museum of Harlem to the Schomburg Center to the Harlem Arts Alliance, Harlem has a longstanding history of cultivating the talent of Black visual artists.

“We have a wall; only one presenting wall, but it is a wall, and we can present the work of artists who have something to say,” stated Dr. Indira Etwaroo when she started her tenure as CEO & Artistic Director at Harlem Stage.

At Harlem Stage, we are not just presenting art and performances – we are cultivating movements, supporting bold new works and ideas, and re-imagining what the future of the arts field and the world can and should be.

“In a survey of the works in the collections of all major US museums, researchers found that just 1.2% of pieces were made by Black artists. This is the lowest share of any racial group.”

We have launched our new Exhibit Space with the incredible photographic exhibit Tadj by Hollis King where regality meets eclecticism to illuminate Black dignity and humanity.

The community can purchase 36” x 36” framed works of art printed on archival paper, as well as 11” x 11” and 8” x 8” prints. Installment plans are available. Please email Deirdre May, Senior Director of Communications at Harlem Stage [email protected] if you wish to learn more about owning one of these art pieces.
